About Monica
I am the dog trainer for Three Rivers Humane Society in Madras, Oregon. I work in tandem with staff and volunteers to provide the best care, training, and placement of homeless dogs until their perfect home can be found. I provide pre-adoption information and post adoption support. In October of 2017 I received certification in Rescue Dog Rehabilitation and Cognition with Distinction. In January of 2017 I completed the Sirius Dog Training Academy, and prior to that have attended classes and seminars, as well as numerous online courses. I am a Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a large group of dedicated, knowledgeable dog trainers that are committed to building better trainers through education. I am also a certified Tester/Observer for Therapy Dogs, Inc.
I'm passionate about sharing the knowledge of how dogs learn and how to effectively communicate to your pet what you want (and don't want) and strive to offer that in a personal and very affordable way. My own personal pets are a testament to the power of positive reinforcement training and how you can modify behavior, which you can change, as well as managing temperament, which you cannot change.
I have an insatiable hunger for personal growth in knowledge and practical application of all things positive in dog training. I continue to study, attend positive dog training seminars, and to shadow respected peers as I strive to be the best dog owner Indy, Daisy, Teddy, Sevo and Rusty could ever wish for.
My prior work history includes having worked at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary as a zookeeper in Folsom, California. Positive reward based training and behavioral enrichment was a large part of the zoo's daily operation to allow for safe handling of the resident animals. I also spent the last 4 years, prior to working with Three Rivers, at two local humane societies.
